                                                                                   Banjo
I built this unusual 5 string banjo from scratch.  It won FIRST PLACE in the State Fair of Texas in 1995 for craftsmanship and inlay work.  Unlike other 5 string banjo's, all 5 tuners are located on the peg head.

Banjo or Guitar stand

So if you build your own  banjo, then you've got to build your own stand so you can show it off!
This stand was whittled from a large cedar tree that a storm blew down in our neighborhood.
Unusual??? You bet it is!

Picture

Smoker

This twisted pipe smoker should promote conversation.
I don't think you'll find another one like it!

Picture

Plow blades

Whatever you have left laying around the shop is fair game!
Plow blades, frying pan, meat grinder, it's all about repurposing.

Picture

Granite table

I made this granite table from a left over piece of granite after the construction of our new house.  I made a CAD drawing for the sides of the table  in an effort to copy the design on the back of the chairs and had them laser cut to match.

Picture

Chicken coop

My neighbor wanted chickens so he asked me if I could build him a chicken coop.  Now his chickens are coyote, bobcat and racoon proof and I can score some free eggs!

Picture

Longwood

The heavy cast iron door off of an old Longwood cast iron stove makes a great mount
for this creation.  Then there is the old frying pan with a pair of old hoof trimmers welded to it which is perfect to mount the weighing bin off of an old balance scale to act as a lampshade.  Who knew that these items were NOT banished to the scrap heap?

Birdville

There's nothing like apartment living providing you have good neighbors.
I think all the residents in this complex are living in style!

Picture

Tractor seat

Nothing gets wasted here.  Tractor seat, barbed wire, old wrenches help create
a wall lamp that would be difficult to duplicate.

                                                         Rosewood
I found this piece of rosewood at an exotic wood supplier and just had to have it.  It is just over 2" thick.  It is finished with tru-oil like is used on gun stocks.
The base is an upside down oak stump I found washed out of the shoreline and
I left it totally unfinished.
Picture

Fireplace tools

This set was built with the "TEXAS" theme and the LONE STAR.  They are plenty heavy duty.
Picture

Nail keg

I just couldn't throw away that old nail keg.  I knew it would be good for something.
Plus, the piece of lightning rod supporting it is plenty unusual.
Picture

Rotating herb

My wife likes to raise herbs for our salads and for cooking.
I decided to build her this rotating herb planter with the removeable pots.
I didn't want this one to rust so I had it powder coated.  My salads have never been so good!

                                          Horse tack

Old is good.  This is a part of some old horse tack used by a two horse team to pull a wagon.  It sports the antique bronze colored cage type light covers on the ends and is entangled with old rusty barbed wire that follows a dark bronze colored decorative chain to it's hanging point.  Two old style low output Edison light bulbs
with the visible filament really add a nice touch.
Picture

WALL CLOCK

A customer brought me this old clock from a factory.  It was gray, dirty and way too plain looking.   It originally hung from the ceiling and didn't work.  He told me to "DOLL IT UP" so I did.  I added the horse hames and wrought iron plus I made it two sided and added new works.  It will soon be on the wall of his new restaurant!

Picture

Axe & saw

This is a 150 year old broadhead axe impaled in a Texas mesquite log that is mounted on a 11 gauge diamond plate base.  The handle (of sorts) on the axe is a gnarled piece of Black Jack oak.  The lampshade is a section of a two man crosscut saw rolled and welded.  The saw's edges have been dulled for obvious reasons.
This lamp measures 26" tall.
You won't find another one like this one anywhere!
Picture

Telephone  Tubes

This is an old wooden telephone box.  I've always been fascinated by old electronic tubes so I decided to combine them both into a table lamp.

Picture

Plumbers Stove

When I first saw this at a flea market, I thought it was a cooking stove.  No, it's not for cooking food, it's a stove that plumbers used to melt lead to pour into cast iron pipe joints to seal them together!  Then I found an old silver salad bowl that fit perfectly on top.  This lamp also has a night light inside where the burner used to be.

Picture

Gasoline blow torch chandelier

Remember when the plumber used to use one of these old torches in your house to solder pipes???  Well, no more carbon monoxide fumes in your house!  This  hanging fixture measures about 4 feet across and  displays 8 of those old gasoline torches on a large steel wagon wheel.   The LED lightbulbs are displayed  with 1/2" copper pipe.

Picture

Antlers & shade

Here's your typical antler type of wall lamp fixture.  Simple but attractive.  Maybe the perfect touch when in the perfect place…..?

Picture

Torch and copper

Here is an old gasoline plumbers torch with a copper shade.  Repurposing at it's best!

Guitar stand

A close friend of mine spent 35 years of his life saving peoples lives as a fireman so it was the least I could do to make him something really meaningful.  I whittled this single piece guitar stand out of an old post oak tree that had died in my yard.  I have sealed the cracks by pouring clear acrylic mixed with turquoise.  I'll have to admit that I did not do the beautiful leather work however I CAN put you in touch who did!

Porch light

My customer brought me a pair of these old porch lights that had been painted with a brush, were bent and had broken glass.  Obviously, a complete restoration  was in order!  They both are now greeting customers at the Elm Fork Tap House and Kitchen in Hickory Creek, Texas.  Quite an improvement wouldn't you say??
Picture

Mesquite wall sconce

Mesquite has to be my favorite wood.  It's deep rich and colorful grain almost reaches out to grab me!  I made this wall sconce from a piece of slab wood that I picked up at a saw mill in Sanger, Texas.  The old buggy step makes it a great place to display your favorite items.

Picture

Granite yard bench

Here is another left over piece of granite that my neighbor had and wanted me to make it into a yard bench.  It's a plenty nice addition to his yard.

Picture

Wagon wheel lamp

I made 5 of these wooden wagon wheel hanging fixtures for the Elm Fork Tap House and Kitchen in  Hickory Creek, Texas.  They get lots of positive comments.

Picture

Yard art

I have to please my wife from time to time.  A little YARD ART seems to do the trick!  This giant flower is about 24" in diameter and has counter rotating blades.  The head is mounted so it rotates into the wind.  The blades are welded to sealed ball bearings for a very long and very quiet life.

Frames

The sky is the limit.  Anything goes when it comes to frames.
Just let your imagination run wild.
